The County Road 50/County Road 5 interchange at Interstate 35, is undergoing improvements to address long-standing traffic, safety, and mobility issues.

Led by Dakota County, the City of Lakeville, and MnDOT.

The project timeline includes preliminary design studies through 2024, with recommended designs expected by early 2025.

Final approvals, engineering, and right-of-way acquisition will follow, with construction anticipated between 2028 and 2029.

The project addresses critical needs, including outdated bridges nearing the end of their service life, high crash rates, and limited facilities for pedestrians and cyclists.

Current traffic conditions demonstrate significant delays and congestion, with many intersections operating at poor levels of service (LOS D-F). As traffic volumes increase, these issues are expected to worsen without intervention.
